Composer's Notes

“Ashen light is a faint glow allegedly seen on the unlit portion of Venus, during its crescent phase, similar to the earthshine often observed on the Moon, though not as bright. … No one really knows for sure what causes it.” (Universe Today: “The Mystery of Venus’ Ashen Light”).

Ashen Light is a short solo piano work which incorporates percussive uses of the piano. Initially a project for a composition class, the restriction was that I could only write sevenths and seconds. I’ve since made a few edits which break these rules but for the most part, they’re still there.
